Food is central to our culture, to who we are and to understand each other. It’s our love language, it nourishes us and brings us together. I created this site for us to connect, share and create something delicious in our own lives and for those around us.
Hi there, it’s great to have you here. Grab a cuppa and take your time. If you have any questions, comments or thoughts you’r like to share I’ve included a way to do that at the bottom of the page.
2 Aussie Foodies is a foodie focused spin-off from 2 Aussie Travellers, our original website focused exploring the Asia Pacific region from our base in Australia, had been in the wings for a long time.
Food is a huge part of our travel experience. Finding new restaurants and cafes, losing hours wandering through the farmers market, talking to artisan producers and joining in food tours or cooking classes are what makes us happy. These experiences invariably provide new inspiration in our own kitchen when we get home.
I love food and I love to cook. I enjoy creating new recipes and fusions of ingredients but I’m not a chef. I’ve had no formal training and I’ve never had any wish to put my skills and tantrums in front of the nation on a TV cooking show. I just want to cook and help others enjoy it the same way I do.
I’m like many home cooks out there, when I get a recipe, whether that’s from a recipe book, magazine or website I want to know it works. I want it to be thoroughly tested and as close to failproof as it can be. If there are any pitfalls or skills tips I want to know them. New ingredients are fun, a pantry full of things bought to try new recipes but only used the once isn’t fun and I hate to waste food.
I make every recipe multiple times before it appears on this site. If I’ve tested it with substitutions and variations I’ll share that and how they change the finished outcome. I’m fascinated by the science of food, how ingredients work together and in our bodies. Sometimes it’s useful to know why you can or can’t substitute a seemingly similar ingredient but I’ll try to keep that to a minimum in the recipes and include a tips section for those that are interested in that side of things.
In ‘the great lockdown of 2020’ when no one was able to travel anywhere and our calendar had a lot of crossing out and cancelled plans, I finally put my reservations aside and focused on getting this website off the ground. I hope you find some recipes you like, take away some inspiration or just fill a few minutes in a relaxed and positive way with a focus on food.
I’d love to hear what you’d like to see more of, less of, or just to hear something about your own journey and experiences with food and cooking. Think about sending us a message below or share your thoughts in the comments section of the recipes and articles.
